Ben Woon and Boon Hwee are new friends we met at Melbourne. They are a pair of young, joyous and energetic couple getting married soon. They want a set of pre-wedding photos that reflect their important milestone at this uniquely beautiful Melbourne. My original proposal was to start the shoot at Fitzroy Garden, follow by Old Treasury Building, State Parliament and Flinders Street. Timing wise we agree to shoot from 4-8 pm, which captures the soft afternoon sunlight at garden, and the sunset shot at the city.

Melbourne is most notorious of its ever-changing weather which can make the world’s today’s weather forecast become pretty much useless. We setup one shoot on the first weekend, and it was raining cats and dogs. On the consequent weekend, we just decided to go out shooting earlier to catch more shooting time, in case the weather becomes a restless kid. Sunlight was strong and harsh, so we have to switch plan and go to University of Melbourne where we can shoot under the shade in the classic Victorian architecture.

Time flies without us realizing, and after our shoot at University of Melbourne, the time has come to the late afternoon. We moved on to Carlton Garden for a garden setting under the gentle sunset lighting. Lastly, we moved onto to the city centre, which is the iconic Melbourne railway station Flinders Station for a night shot.

It was a fun experience shooting with Ben Woon and Boon Hwee. I wish them ever happiness in their marriage.

An autumn portrait - Alfred Nicholas Garden

07.13.10

Two years back, at an online forum, I saw a beautiful autumn portrait theme taken at Mount Wilson New South Wales. Since then, it was always at the back of my mind to compose one. I live at Melbourne, and I asked many people around with beautiful autumn scenery. At Victoria, the most beautiful autumn scenery probably is at Bright. However, Bright is 300km away from Melbourne, and it is quite impractical to ask a model whom you do not know well, to travel so far away. Eventually my colleague’s wife gave me two suggestions - Alfred Nicholas Garden and Cloud Hill Nursery. Cloud Hill Nursery is a private garden and therefore I am hesitated to organize a portrait shoot at a private venue. So the obvious choice is left with Alfred Nicholas Garden (which is a public garden). Through Internet, I happened to meet Candice, and I proposed the autumn portrait theme to her. Candice was enthusiastic with the idea. We waited for nearly a month, from April to May, until the autumn leaves had turned to their most gorgeous moment. On contrary to a classic gentle classic beauty styling, Candice dressed in more fashion glamour attire, and the posture and setup are leaning towards fashion glamour, with contrast to the natural gentle beauty of autumn. So here are the pictures I like to share with you all taken at Alfred Nicholas garden with Candice. Hope you all like it, and constructive feedback/comment are more than welcome to help me improve.

Sensational Sarah - Fashion Glamour Portrait

06.13.10

Here are some pictures taken with Sarah at Melbourne Camera Club studio. I knew Sarah through Internet. Sarah is a cheerful girl who would like to begin building up a portfolio. She was proactive to bring along her friend Ranee as make-up styling artist, and she also brought a variety of wardrobe for different images/styles. This was also my first attempt to organize a shoot session, coordinate end-end process, from conceptualization to actual production. I am grateful to have this opportunity to meet Sarah and Ranne to complete this portrait session. Also a big Thanks to my friends Jerwin and Raymond, who came along to participate and help out with lighting. Hope you all like it, and constructive feedback/comment are more than welcome to help me improve.

03.15.10

My friend Jerwin organized this swimsuit photography shoot session on a labor day long weekend at Brighton beach Melbourne. Weather forecasted there will be thunder storm on the weekend. We nevertheless decided to try our luck and persisted to go ahead. We were honored to have Chloe who was a dedicated and skillful model. Jerwin also managed to get help from a young and brilliant make-up artist Lydia . I am grateful to have this opportunity to learn from him the process to setup a shoot session, from concept, organizing, planning to production. So here it is, my first seaside fashion theme shoot.

Chinese New Year at Glen Waverly Melbourne

02.20.10

It is year 2010, year of ox. I went back to Malaysia for one week to visit my family. For this year, as my little daugther is very young, so I only went back for one week. After I am back at Melbourne, I heard that there is a Chinese New Year celebration, on the 15th day. By tradition, new year 15th day is the Chinese Valentine Day. It is also a significant day in the CNY period, where it closes up the CNY period.

So here we go. We placed little Min at grand mother’s house (pity little Min is abandoned this time), and brought Ying along. It is precious that at a western country, we still have the opportunity to feel this Chinese tradition. We want Ying to feel it, and we want her to know the rich culture, tradition and history of our ancestor.

New Year Eve 2010 fireworks

12.31.09

My elder daughter is very excited to go see new year fireworks at the city. Fortunately her uncle has a friend Dorin lives at an apartment at Dockland, so we set off to her place at 7pm. At about 9pm, we went to the 4th floor of the apartment, where we can get a higher view point towards the entire Dockland harbour view. Heavy clouds came by and drizzle began to arrive. The organizer was announcing the fireworks might be delayed to 9:45pm. At 9:30pm, out of a sudden, the fireworks began to blossom. I quickly setup the tripod and camera within seconds, and started to fire some shots. I was quite lucky to get a few good shots despite the ad-hoc setup. Wishing everyone Happy New Year 2010!!.

Newly arrive second baby daugther

09.05.09

Our second baby daugther finally arrived on 30th Aug 2009, a cold rainy spring. My wife Lynn started contraction at 7pm, and we arrived at the hospital 730pm. Eventually at 10:05pm the mother successfully delivered the baby. We are grateful to our god, under her blessing, that the whole labor was smooth. We also received many wishes from our friends around the world, and we are thankful to them. Below are some photos taken while the little baby girl was just born.

I met Yaeli through Internet. At this information age, it is so magical how Internet can bring people with same interest together so effectively. It was a pleasure working with Yaeni. She is a very supportive, friendly and proactive model. I wish these photos can help her in building up a good folio, and I wish her all the best in pursuing her future career.
